What this site collects, what it does not, and what you can ask me to do about it.
NoSuchDevice.com is a one-person project. There is no marketing team behind it and no data broker waiting in the back room. This page explains, in plain terms, what happens to information when you read here. It is written to meet the standards of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which sets the bar for how your data should be handled regardless of where you sit.
The short version
- I do not sell your data. There is no one to sell it to and no interest in trying.
- The site uses Google Analytics and Google Search Console to understand traffic. That involves cookies.
- There are no comments and no on-site accounts.
- Donations happen on external platforms. Your payment details never touch this site.
- A newsletter is planned. If you sign up later, it will be opt-in and easy to leave.
Analytics and how the site is measured
I use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to see which articles people read, where visitors arrive from, and which pages are broken. This is aggregate curiosity, not surveillance of individuals. To do this, Google sets cookies in your browser and processes data such as your approximate location, device and browser type, the pages you view, and a truncated or anonymized IP address.
This data is handled under Google’s own privacy terms. You can opt out at the browser level using the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings. The site works the same either way.
Cookies
The cookies on this site come from two sources: the analytics tools above, and any third-party content embedded in articles (see below). I do not set my own tracking cookies for advertising, because there are no ads here. You can clear or block cookies at any time through your browser. Blocking them will not lock you out of anything.
Comments and accounts
There is no comment section and no way to register an account. The site does not ask you to create a login, and it does not store profiles. The only way to reach me is by email, described further down.
Donations
If you choose to support the site, you can do so through Patreon, Ko-fi, or cryptocurrency. Each of these works the same way in one respect: you leave NoSuchDevice.com and complete the transaction on the platform’s own site, where you log in and pay.
- Patreon and Ko-fi handle your name, email, and payment details under their own privacy policies. I only ever see what those platforms choose to show a creator, such as a display name and the fact that a pledge was made.
- Cryptocurrency transactions are recorded on a public blockchain by design. A wallet address and the amount sent are visible to anyone. I do not collect any personal information when you send crypto.
No payment card numbers, bank details, or wallet credentials are ever entered on or stored by this site.
Newsletter (planned)
A newsletter is on the way. I am describing it now so this page does not need rewriting the week it launches. When it goes live, the rules will be simple:
- You will only be added if you sign up yourself. No one gets subscribed without asking.
- The only thing collected is your email address, used to send new articles and occasional notes, nothing else.
- Every email will carry a one-click unsubscribe link, and leaving takes effect immediately.
- The list will live with a standard email provider that processes the data under its own terms. I will name the provider here once it is chosen.
Embedded content from other sites
Some articles include videos from YouTube, and more will over time. When a page carries an embedded video, that content behaves as if you had visited the source directly: YouTube may set its own cookies and collect data about your interaction, under Google’s privacy policy. I do not control what those embeds collect. If you want to avoid this, blocking third-party cookies in your browser will stop most of it, at the cost of the embedded video not loading.
Hosting and server logs
The site is served through Hostinger’s content delivery network. Like nearly every web host, it keeps standard server logs that may include IP addresses, browser details, and timestamps. These exist for security and to keep the site running, and they are handled under the host’s own data policies.
Contact
There is no contact form to harvest your details. The only channel is email:
hello@nosuchdevice.comWhen you write, I keep your message and address only as long as needed to reply and to follow any conversation that grows out of it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see what data relates to you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to how it is processed, or withdraw consent you gave earlier. For most of what happens here, the real controllers are the third parties named above, Google, the donation platforms, the future newsletter provider, and your requests to them carry the most weight. For anything I hold directly, such as an email you sent me, write to the address above and I will sort it out.
Changes to this policy
When the site adds something that touches your data, the newsletter going live, a new tool, this page changes with it. The date below always reflects the last meaningful update.
